NAVEGATION MAGDALENA
AND MARTA ISLANDS
It was in 1520
when Hernando de Magallanes discovered the strait that was later named
after him. Its channels have been the migratory route of the richest
fauna in the world: whales, sea lions, penguins, and a variety of
sea birds and other animals. The Strait of Magellan was the only way
between the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans.
To visit Patagonia, and not sailing its channels, is to miss the essence
of this southern area.
It is impossible
not to visit the two islands. The ecosystem made up by both of them
is wonderful. On Marta Island live more than a thousand sea lions,
cormorants, skuas, among others. On Magdalena Island you can interact
with one of the biggest colonies of Magellanic Penguins (more than
150,000 birds). Besides, dolphins can be observed during the navigation.
In order to help protecting the wild life, it is not possible to disembark
in Marta Island. This island is only circumnavigated.
The excursion lasts 3.15 hours.
